Boulby Flyer

A special steam train will leave York on a return journey on Sunday 2nd October to travel to Boulby in North Yorkshire.

*UPDATE*

The Saltburn 150 Committee has learned from posters that have been put up around the town, rather from the individual promoter of this event, like other residents of Saltburn, that there will no longer be a steam train.

The train pulling the Boulby Flier will now be a diesel train.

Having arrived at Boulby the train will stop off at Saltburn-by-the-Sea for a few hours. During this time the train will undertake a return journey to Boulby for local travellers.

Times

Approximate train times are as follows:

10:15 – Depart York
12:15 – Arrive Boulby
13:15 – Arrive Saltburn
14:15 – Depart Saltburn for Boulby
16:00 – Return to Saltburn
16:30 – Depart Saltburn to York
19:20 – Arrive York

*UPDATE*

It is our understanding from posters put up around town that the departure time from Saltburn has now changed to 13:49. We have not been able to confirm this directly with the private promoter of the event.

Prices

From York tickets will be £45 return and will be available from the Redcar Tourist Information Office on 01642 471 921.

From Saltburn to Boulby tickets will be £20 and will be available from the Saltburn-by-the-Sea Library, but will be available in person and in cash only.

There will be 364 seats available on each portion of the trip.

Tickets will be available from 12th September 2011.

All times are approximate and passengers are advised to arrive at stations in good time. No responsibility can be accepted by the promoter for any variation to the provisional timetable.

I’m really looking forward to this. Do you know how much the tickets will be please? Thanks, Kerry x

Not at the moment. We’ll let you know as soon as we know. Thanks, Peter

£20 flat rate, even for children?

    • http://blog.nealandassociates.co.uk Peter Neal

I’m afraid so John. The Saltburn 150 committee has not organised the event, it is being organised by an individual and they’ve said there will be no concessions, despite committee members attempting to persuade them otherwise.

  • malcolm

love to do this trip but i live in northumberland and i can not just go to saltburn library to get tickets.

    • http://blog.nealandassociates.co.uk Peter Neal

Malcolm as I said to John this event is being organised by an individual and though we have offered to make online ticketing facilities available to them so people like yourself can buy tickets they have so far refused. Sorry.

  • Gavin

    I agree

Steam knocked on the head by all accounts. Network Rail not playing ball.

    • http://blog.nealandassociates.co.uk Peter Neal

I’m afraid the Saltburn 150 committee has only been informed of these variations via the posters that have been put up around town. We have not heard directly from the promoter, so we cannot be confirm the reasons for this.

Obviously the trip was marketed as a steam driven so if you have bought tickets on this basis and would like a refund we suggest you contact the promoter Councillor Philip Thomson directly, care of:

      Redcar and Cleveland Council
      Town Hall
      Fabian Road
      South Bank

  • Michael

Can you buy tickets on the train?

    • http://blog.nealandassociates.co.uk Peter Neal

Michael, my understanding is that all of the tickets from the Saltburn side have sold out. Mind due to the fact it is no longer a steam train you might be able to buy tickets off someone prior to boarding.

This event is not directly organised by the Saltburn 150 Committee.

so what time is it, does anyone know (from Saltburn) and not happy at all about the steam train.
